WOOSTER, Ohio--Recent Adrian College graduate Tommy Parsons (New Albany, Ohio) has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® 6 NCAA Division III Baseball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America CoSIDA and announced by CoSIDA this week. First-team Academic All-District® honorees--like Parsons--advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.
Parsons is the first Bulldog since Eric Schmidt and Jeff Gertley in 2015 to reach the national ballot for Academic All-America® consideration.
Parsons, the three-time Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year, is 10-0 with one save on the season while leading the MIAA in earned-run average (1.48), victories, strikeouts (103), shutouts (2), complete games (9) and innings pitched (85.0). Opponents are hitting just .232 against him. Among NCAA Division III leaders, Parsons is first in complete games, second in strikeout-to-walks ratio (20.4), fifth in strikeouts, 20th in WHIP (0.93) and 25th in ERA.
He is the NCAA all-Divisions active career leader with 39 wins against only four losses, including a personal 22-game winning streak. Among current Division III all-time leaders Parsons is fourth with 282 strikeouts and second with seven shutouts. As a junior, he went 44.1 innings without issuing a walk for what is believed to be a NCAA III record.
A 2017 All-American, Parsons began 2018 as a preseason All-American by D3baseball.com and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
A business management major, Parsons is an AC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member and performed community service with Little League as a youth baseball coach, Halloween Patrol (helping keep Adrian children safe on city streets) and Adrian City clean-up crew (raking leaves and picking up trash while putting up Christmas decorations for the winter).
He helped the Bulldogs sweep the MIAA regular-season and tournament championships for the sixth time in the past seven seasons, extending their conference-record of 10-consecutive first-place finishes. He factored into two of Adrian's three victories en route to the MIAA tourney crown that garners an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship, picking up a 9-2 win over Calvin and his first career save versus Hope to clinch it. In 10 innings, he allowed just two earned runs while striking out nine (and no walks).
Adrian will host the Division III Mideast Regional at Nicolay Field next week, May 17-21.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the baseball student-athletes listed above in the PDF/Doc links, and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations. Adrian's District 6 includes schools from Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
