@ACBulldogHockey Starts Quick, Finishes Strong on Defense in 3-1 Win at CUW

MEQUON, Wis.--The nationally-ranked Adrian College offense scored three first-period goals, and the Bulldogs' defense did the rest, in a 3-1 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association men's victory on Saturday evening.

THE BASICS

TOP 'DAWGS
= Junior Kyle Brothers led all scorers with three points on a goal and pair of assists.

= Sophomore goalie Kevin Entmaa (11-5-2 record) had 25 saves on 26 shots faced.

= Junior alternate captain Taylor McCloy continued his strong weekend with another multi-point effort of a goal and an assist.

THE OPPOSITION
= Eric Therrien scored the Falcons' lone goal, his fifth of the season.

= Jon Brumwell (3) and Josh Adkins (9) picked up assists on that scoring play.

= Jack Romanuik (9-7-1) posted 37 saves in the CUW net. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian outshot CUW 40 to 26, including the decisive first period by an 18-6 margin.

= McCloy and Brothers scored exactly 2 minutes apart beginning at the 9-minute, 35-second mark into the first period to stake Adrian to a 2-0 advantage.

= Sophomore Trevor Boyd scored the game's final tally with 87 seconds left to make it 3-0 Adrian after 20 minutes.

= Therrien broke up Entmaa's shutout bid late in the second period.

= The Adrian defense killed off all seven CUW power-play attempts and limited the Falcons to an average of 10 shots over the final two periods. Defenders also blocked shots or limited CUW from long range.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian has won four games in a row, allowing just 1.5 goals per game.

= Adrian is 36-0 lifetime against CUW, and the 36 victories are the most over any opponent.

= Boyd tops the Bulldogs with 15 goals and 31 points on the season--which is a career high. He had 29 points in his 2015-16 freshman campaign.

= The Bulldog penalty kill unit has not allowed a power play goal in the opponents' last 15 opportunities over four games.

= Adrian has won 12 consecutive NCHA road games dating back to last season.

= Adrian will have its final regular season series next Friday (7:05 p.m.) and Saturday (3:05 p.m.) when the Bulldogs face NCHA opponent St. Scholastica at Arrington Ice Arena. Saturday will signal Senior Day.
