Men's Hockey Edged by Defending Harris Cup Champion St. Norbert, 2-1, in Overtime

ADRIAN, Mich.--Timmy Nicksic scored the game-winning goal at 3 minutes and 19 seconds into overtime to lift visiting St. Nobert to a 2-1 victory over Adrian in the 2018 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Harris Cup men's championship game on Saturday. The Green Knights repeated their 2017 NCHA Harris Cup title while snapping the Bulldogs' 16-game winning streak.

= Records: St. Norbert Green Knights 24-4-1 overall (NCHA No. 2 overall seed); Adrian Bulldogs 24-5 overall (NCHA No. 1 overall seed)

= Senior captain Mathew Thompson scored the Bulldogs' lone goal on four shots on goal.

= Senior Chase Matson (8-for-11) and junior Bryan Yim (8-for-13) led Adrian at the face-off dot.

= Senior assistant captain Taylor McCloy had an assist to extend his point-scoring streak to four games in which he's totaled 12 on eight goals and four assists.

= Classmate Kyle Brothers also assisted on Thompson's tally.

= Junior goalie Kevin Entmaa had 34 stops.

= Tanner Froese also scored to put the Green Knights on the scoreboard.

= Netminder T.J. Black saved 26 of 27 shots he faced.

= Brad Pung led all players with 11 face off wins in 24 draws.

= Steven Phillips, who had an assist, was 8-for-15 on face-offs; Keegan Milligan, 8-of-16. 

= After a scoreless first period, Adrian drew first blood with 2 minutes and 12 seconds to go in the second. McCloy and Brothers connected on crisp, short passing to the right of the goal while Thompson stationed on the opposite post was the beneficiary of McCloy's primary assist. The goal occurred just as a Green Knight left the penalty box.

= With SNC working a 5-on-3 power play, Froese made it 1-1 midway through the third period on assists from Peter Bates and Dominick Sacco.

= After a chip back to Nick LeSage at the left point, he slid a pass down to Nicksic who freed himself from the half-wall on the left wing. Nicksic moved around an AC defender and cut across the goal crease to plant the game-winning goal into the back of the net.  

= St. Nobert outshot Adrian 36 to 27, including 15-5 in the third and OT periods. 

= The 2018 NCHA Harris Cup All-Tournament Team selections were: Taylor McCloy, Adrian, Forward; Tanner Froese, St. Norbert, Forward; Mathew Thompson, Adrian, Forward; Nick LeSage, St. Norbert, Defense; Cory Dunn, Adrian, Defense; T.J. = The Bulldogs fall to 28-4 all-time in the conference playoffs.

= Adrian's 16-game winning streak was the longest in all NCAA divisions at the time, third-longest in school history and longest in NCAA Division III since Feb. 7-Nov. 14, 2014 as St. Norbert had a similar string. 

= For the first time this season, Adrian lost a game when scoring the first goal (19-1) and leading after two periods (20-1).

= Adrian is 14-1 at home in 2017-18, outscoring opponents 70-18.

= Brothers has 99 career assists and is the Bulldogs active all-time scorer with 151 points.

= All three meetings so far this winter have gone to an extra session. St. Norbert moves to 10-7 all-time against the Bulldogs.

= Adrian, which was ranked No. 1 in the West Region for the third consecutive week, will await its fate for an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship. The selection show will air on Monday at 10:30 a.m.
