Women's Basketball Falls Just Short at Chatham in First Loss, 75-66

PITTSBURGH--In its first road game of the season, the Adrian College women's basketball team kept battling before eventually falling to host Chatham, 75-66, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Chatham University 75, Adrian College 66

TOP 'DAWGS
= Freshman Rylee Campbell scored a career-high 16 points off the bench, shooting 6-for-11 from the floor.

= Senior Ashley Morris led three starters in double digits with 18 points (7-11), followed by junior Shannon Garvey and sophomore Sha'Trice Graves with 12 apiece.

= Graves completed the double-double with 11 rebounds to go along with three assists and two blocked shots.

= Sophomore Rachel Bucher contributed eight rebounds to match Morris' total.

= Senior Emily Somerville had five assists and eight points before fouling out.

THE OPPOSITION
= Ashley McClain led the Cougars with 20 points, including 8-for-8 from the free throw line, and she had five rebounds and three assists.

= Megan Sieg scored 19 points with three assists and three steals.

= Katie Sieg tallied 12 points, seven assists and three steals.

= Sierra Ungerman scored 10 points off the bench.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Chatham made three more free throws (19-for-25) than Adrian attempted (10-for-16) to score nine more points from the stripe.

= Adrian had its only lead of the night, 4-3, on a jump shot from Garvey.

= After a 20-11 first quarter advantage, the Cougars got the lead to 10 before halftime. Morris banked in a three-pointer as the Bulldogs closed within 36-31 at the intermission.

= Chatham got the lead back up to double digits in the second half and the Bulldogs again cut into the deficit. A Campbell jumper with 4 minutes and 46 seconds to go tied it 61-61, but the hosts outscored Adrian 14-5 the rest of the way to seal the victory. Adrian missed four shots and had four turnovers down the stretch, while Chatham went 8-for-8 on free throws.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= This game was originally scheduled for Dec. 20.

= Chatham, which once was an all-female school, is a member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference.

= For the second straight outing, Adrian played a first-time opponent. The Bulldogs defeated Great Lakes Christian College last weekend.

= Graves leads the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with 13 blocked shots.

UP NEXT
= Adrian will travel on Saturday to Illinois Tech for a non-conference contest, starting at 2 p.m. Eastern (1p CT).
