SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) announced Wednesday that five Adrian College women's hockey players have been named to the 2011 NCHA Women's All-Academic Team. Lauren Anastos, Shana Davis, Jessica Grubbs, Danielle Maludy and Meghan Smerecki were all honored by the NCHA.
Anastos, a senior from Farmington Hills, Michigan, is majoring in biology with a 3.89 gpa, which was tied for the third highest among all recipients. Anastos, an alternate captain, finished the regular season with two goals and four assists in 24 games and is receiving the honor for the second time in her career.
Davis (Cassel Berry, Fla.) has a gpa of 3.45 while double majoring in psychology and business. The junior has tallied one goal and three assists in 13 regular season games.
Grubbs (Woodbridge, Va.), is an athletic training major with a 3.87 gpa, she is receiving the honor for the second time while at Adrian. Grubbs scored five goals while dishing out seven assists in 23 regular season games.
Maludy, a senior from Maumee, Ohio and receiving the honor for the second time, has a gpa of 3.88 while majoring in interior design. Maludy, one of two team captains, has scored two goals while assisting on five more in 22 regular season games.
Smerecki, a junior from Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, is majoring in exercise science with a 3.23 gpa. Smerecki, who serves as an inspirational team leader off the ice, saw game action earlier in the season against Finlandia.
Anastos, Grubbs and Mauldy were three of the five finalists for the Scholar-Athlete Award which eventually went to Kristin Faber from Wis.-Eau Claire. No other school had more than one player nominated for the Scholar-Athlete Award.
