Power Play Propels Adrian to 6-4 Win at UWSP

STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The women's hockey team continues to thrive towards the end of the season as they picked up their fifth straight win with a 6-4 win at UW-Stevens Point to sweep the weekend series against the Pointers on Sunday, Feb. 5

Courtney Millar staked Adrian to a 2-0 lead into the second period as she scored a pair at even strength with the first goal assisted by Ashley Chinn and the second goal assisted by goaltender Brittany Zeches. Then it was the power play of the Bulldogs that took over. Nina Laurie scored on the power play at 17:12 of the second from Lauren Turner and Kelly Salis to give Adrian a 3-1 lead.

The Pointers scored just 36 seconds later to cut the lead to 3-2 with an unassisted goal by Cassandra Salmen. Hannah McGowan scored 15 seconds later to give Adrian a 4-2 lead with assists from Lauren Zachwieja and Danielle Smith. The Bulldogs added two more power play goals to begin the third period.

Turner and Salis scored at 4:44 and 6:17 of the third to put the game out of reach at 6-2. Sarah Connelly and Laurie assisted on Turner's goal. Salis' goal was unassisted as Adrian went 3-for-5 for the game on the power play. UWSP made it interesting with goals at 8:42 and 14:43 but the lead was too big to overcome.

Adrian was outshot 22-19 by the Pointers and Zeches made 18 saves in the win. Adrian is now 6-5-1 all time against UW-Stevens Point.
