Women's Hockey Makes it Eight Straight Victories
ADRIAN, Mich. - Senior night left the fans on the edge of their seat as the Bulldogs had a loud 3rd period to knock off Lake Forest 3-1 in the first game of the last NCHA series of the season. After two scoreless periods, the Bulldogs were able to find the net three times in the 3rd to improve to 13-8-2 (11-6-2 NCHA).
The scoring started in the 3rd when senior Kelly Salis found the net at the 3:38 mark of the period from freshman Courtney Millar. Less than three minutes later, sophomore Lauren Turner stole the puck on a breakaway and got a short-handed goal for the Bulldogs. The goal was Turner's second of the season.
Senior night was the first game back since Jan. 15 for senior forward Brooke Zaleski after an injury sustained earlier in the season. Zaleski had previously missed the past seven games, which were all victories for the Bulldogs, winners of eight straight. Senior Brittany Zeches had another strong performance between the pipes for the Bulldogs, allowing one goal and saving 16 shots.
Lake Forest is now one point ahead of Adrian in the standings as the two teams share identical overall records. If the Bulldogs were to win in the 2 pm game tomorrow over the Foresters, they would take the 3 seed in the NCHA tournament. If the Bulldogs were to fall to the Foresters, they would drop down to the 4 or 5 seed, depending on the outcome of the St. Scholastica game against UW-Superior. The top four teams host first-round NCHA tournament games.
