ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's hockey team used a five goal second period to snap one of the nation's longest active unbeaten streak at 12 games (Plattsburgh is currently 12-0) to earn the 8-1 victory over the Mustangs of Stevenson University. Logan Taylor set her teammates up throughout the game, finishing with four assists.
The Bulldogs came out fast scoring two goals in 17 seconds during the first five minutes of the first period. Hannah Dalrymple scored the first goal off the assist from teammates Taylor and Audrey Noles. Brooke Lupi scored the second goal, her first of two on the night. She was also assisted by Taylor. The Mustangs would respond with a goal in the second half of the period when Sydney Hughes put the puck in the net on a power play off the assist from teammates Sarah Antonelli and McKenzie Taggart. The score would cut the Bulldog lead in half with the score 2-1.
Adrian would start the second period much the same as they previous when Lupi would score her second goal of the night off the assist from Taylor in the first five minutes of the period. Less than two minutes later, Kristin Lewicki would score when her defender fell providing a clear path to the goalie on the breakaway. The score would give the Bulldogs a commanding 4-1 lead. Courtney Tyll, Lewicki and Sydney Smith would add one more goal before the end of the period. Adrian would take a 7-1 lead into the final intermission.
Kaylyn Schroka would score the final goal of the game 23 seconds into the final period, settling the score at 8-1 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Adrian will stay at home when they host the 2nd Annual Bruiser Bowl this weekend. They will face Manhattanville on the Friday, January 8. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m., start.
