Bulldogs Score Three Goals in Final Period to Earn Win

ADRIAN, Mich. - The women's hockey team scored three goals in the third period to record a big conference win against Concordia (Wis.) University Friday night at the Arrington Ice Arena. Adrian is now 8-9-1 overall with an NCHA record of 6-3.

Hilary Christiansen scored a breakaway goal to give the Falcons an early lead. She was assisted on the goal by Jaime Athens. The Bulldogs were able to tie the game late in the period with a goal from Stacey Kempson at the 19:00 mark. Kempson was assisted by Dana Funkenhauser and Ashley Gniewek.

The second period was similar to the first as each team was able to score one goal. Concordia once again scored first with an even strength goal from Samantha Meuwissen. Adrian answered with a goal to tie the game at 2-2, this time in the 16th minute of play. Brooke Zaleski scored her seventh goal of the year off assists from Jessica Grubbs and Olivia Rork.

The Bulldogs were able to dominate the third period of play by scoring three goals to earn the 5-2 victory. Ashley Aiken scored the game-winning goal at the 10:52 mark of the final period. It was Aiken's first goal of the season. Jenna Corbin picked up an assist on the goal.

Kelly Salis and Grubbs added the other two goals of the third period. Zaleski earned an assist on each goal, while Nicky Futers also got credited with an assist on the goal by Salis.

Dana Timm was the goalkeeper for Adrian. Timm was challenged in the third period as she made 15 of her 23 saves in the final 20 minutes of action. Adrian will host Concordia for game two of the series tomorrow at noon.
