Johnston’s Five Goals Leads to 16-12 Win at Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Senior attacker Rachel Johnston netted five goals and added an assist on Sunday, April 1 as the Bulldog women's lacrosse team defeated Lynchburg College by the final score of 16-12. Adrian moves to 9-2 overall with the victory while Lynchburg sits at 6-4 with the loss.

The Hornets led 7-5 at halftime thanks in part to 16 shots in the opening half. Lynchburg was also 4-for-6 on free-position shots compared to 1-for-1 by Adrian. It was a game of runs in the first half as Adrian jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 4:31 of the contest. Hannah Early scored at 27:59 with an assist from Stacey Birlson to start the scoring. Amanda Lambert, Olivia Duncan and Meghan Reynolds each scored during the quick start and then Duncan scored again at the 25:29 mark for the five-goal advantage.

The Hornets responded with seven straight goals to take the lead into the locker room. Bri Slate scored three times and Kendall Adkin scored twice for Lynchburg. Slate and Adkin also assisted on a goal in the opening 30 minutes.

Adrian came back onto the field for the second half with energy scored the first five goals to take a 10-7 lead with 17:40 left. Katrina Rabishaw scored the first goal of the second half followed by Johnston's first goal of the game at 25:43 to tie the game at 7-7. Heather Newblom broke the tie at 22:23 with an assist from Johnston. Reynolds scored her second goal of the game at 19:03 from Duncan and Duncan scored her own at 17:40 for the three-goal lead.

Lynchburg cut the lead to 10-8 after an Adkin goal at 16:54, but the Bulldogs started pulling away with four straight goals to take a 14-8 lead with 11:11 to play. Johnston scored three times during the stretch. Julie Will broke up the run at 7:49 to cut the lead to 14-9. Adrian scored the next two goals from Reynolds and Johnston to make it 16-9 with 4:47 remaining. The Hornets scored the game's final three goals as Katie Seidel had a goal and assist.

Birlson finished with three points on two shots on goal. Duncan finished with five points and eight shots on net. Newblom had a goal and two assists. Lambert ended with six draw controls. Early also had five draw controls. Laura Finfrock made 10 saves going the distance in net.
