ADRIAN, Mich. – A battle of conference unbeatens met on the Performance Stadium turf on Saturday afternoon as the Adrian College women's lacrosse team remained atop the standings (13-2, 5-0) with a 20-12 win over visiting Carthage (9-4, 3-1). The Bulldogs are positioned to win its second consecutive Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference title with just two league games remaining.
Carthage presented the biggest challenge to date in the MWLC as they hung with the Bulldogs trailing 9-6 at halftime. Adrian really picked up its intensity in the second half as they scored 11 goals to cruise to the 20-12 win.
Olivia Duncan continued to be option one for Adrian as she scored six times to increase her goal total to an even 40 on the season. She scored three goals in each half and also added two assists for a season-high eight points. Duncan also grabbed three ground balls and caused one turnover.
Amanda Lambert was a good compliment to Duncan providing five goals and three assists. She matched her season-high of eight points set last game on a neutral field against Sewanee. Heather Newblom, Cassie Hoyez and Lindsey Day each scored twice for Adrian.
The Bulldogs scooped up 28 ground balls on the day as Lambert tallied seven. Lambert also won eight draw controls and scored her five goals on just five shots on goal. Laura Finfrock improved to 10-2 in net with nine saves on the afternoon. The Bulldogs will host Concordia (Wis.) tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
