Mount Union Upends Bulldogs, 14-10

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs met Mount Union Saturday evening for their final non-conference game of 2014. The Bulldogs looked to continue their momentum from a solid 12-7 victory over Keuka on Friday. The Raiders played a stout first half as they left the Bulldogs with a 9-3 first half deficit. Adrian battled back to win the second half, 7-5, but Mount Union hung on to drop the Bulldogs, 14-10. This loss leaves the Adrian at a 2-5 overall record heading into MIAA action.

The first half was highlighted by the Raiders scoring five straight goals starting at the 22:04 mark to take the first half into their control. Brianna Plester scored her 18th goal of the season, Christina DeSantis scored her second of the year from Maddie Dugan and Sarah Connelly scored her second of the season unassisted to lead the Bulldog offense in the first 30 minutes. Plester scored the first goal of the game to give Adrian the early 1-0 lead, but Mount Union led the Bulldogs 9-3 after one half of play.

The Bulldogs battled back in the second half as they outscored the Raiders 7-5 for the second 30 minutes. Plester once again opened the half with the first goal as she upped her season total to 19 at the 28:12 mark. Mount Union followed this with two quick goals before Adrian went on a three-goal run to cut the Mount Union lead to 11-7. Plester scored her third of the game and 20th of the season, Christine Campbell scored her seventh and Maddie Dugan scored her 15th to give the Bulldogs the momentum with 13:46 left on the clock. The Raiders would once again respond but Adrian followed this response with two more goals as Campbell scored her eighth of the season and second of the game and Hannah Early upped her season total to 15 on a Dugan assist. The Raiders would score twice more split by a Bulldog goal from TaShina Salas as she scored her 15th goal of 2014 at the 5:58 mark. The Raiders would hold off the Adrian second half charge as they dropped the Bulldogs by a 14-10 final decision.

Jul Tehovnik (2-5) made the start in goal for the Bulldogs as she made six saves and grabbed one ground ball.

Brianna Plester scored three times and added seven draw controls. TaShina Salas scored one goal, recorded three ground balls, added three draw controls and caused two turnovers.

The Bulldogs will see action again Wednesday, April 2 when they host Alma at 4 p.m. for their MIAA opener.
