ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs met Alma College for the MIAA Finals Friday night and Adrian defended their title as they took the Scots down, 16-7. The Bulldogs secured the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament that will be set to begin Wednesday, May 7.
The Bulldogs came out strong as they scored the first four goals of the game to take a 4-0 lead with 10:17 left in the half. The Scots then answered with two straight goals to cut the Adrian lead to 4-2. The Bulldogs then regained their offensive stride as they scored four straight goals to end the half and took a 8-2 lead into the break. Brianna Plester scored five goals while Christine Campbell, Hannah Early and Nichole Laflamme each scored one.
The second half saw Adrian score the first two goals to extend their lead early in the half. Alma kept themselves in the game by trading goals with Adrian but they could not overcome the Bulldog advantage. Adrian outscored Alma 8-5 for the half as they secured the MIAA tournament championship, 16-7 and advanced to the NCAA tournament. Laflamme scored two more goals while Early and Plester each added one. TaShina Salas and Sarah Connelly each scored two goals to cap the Bulldog offense.
Brianna Plester scored six goals, added one assist, totaled 10 draw controls and four ground balls. Nichole Laflamme scored three goals while Hannah Early, TaShina Salas and Sarah Connelly each scored twice.
Jul Tehovnik (12-5) earned the victory in goal for Adrian as she made seven saves and recorded one ground ball.
The Bulldogs will see action again Wendesday, May 7 in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The selection show that will determine Adrian's opponent and location will be held Sunday, May 4.
