NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Bulldogs finished their weekend at the Manchester tournament Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs fell to Rose-Hulman, 3-0, before taking down Anderson (Ind.) 3-2 to leave their 2014 overall record at 2-2.
Adrian took on Rose-Hulman in their first match Saturday and they tested the Fightin' Engineers all three sets. The Bulldogs would take them to the end by scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-20 but Adrian could not overcome Rose-Hulman despite the widespread effort of the team. Linnea Berriman hit .385 for the match with five kills while Margo Joubran hit .294 with five kills. Nicole Motz and Marisa Dion contributed to this efficient offense as they totaled 14 and 13 assists respectively. Jessica Walters led the defense with 11 digs.
The Bulldogs met Anderson (Ind.) in their second match of the day. The Bulldogs fell behind 2-1 in the match before battling back to take the match 3-2 in extra points. The match started with the Ravens taking the early 1-0 lead. Adrian would take the second set in comeback fashion as they overcame a late 17-16 deficit to tie the match with a 25-20 win. Anderson would once again take the lead from Adrian as they dropped the Bulldogs in the third set as they followed a quick 8-0 start to take a 25-16 set victory from Adrian. The Bulldogs did not let this deter them as they would take the fourth set and force the tie breaker. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 11-8 lead and used this momentum to ride to a 25-20 set win. The final set needed extra points to decide the victor as the teams battled through nine ties, but the Bulldogs would outlast the Ravens, 21-19, to take the match 3-2.
Margo Joubran compiled 13 kills to lead the Bulldog offense on her way to an all-tournament team nod. Marisa Dion totaled a career high 31 assists to help lead the Adrian attack while Jessica Walters led the defense with 16 digs.
The Bulldogs will see action next September 2 when they travel to Holland, Michigan to take on Hope at 6:30 p.m. in their MIAA opener.
