Tsutae Johnson Named Head Coach for Acrobatics and Tumbling, Cheerleading and Dance

ADRIAN, Mich. - Adrian College has announced the hiring of Tsutae Johnson as the head coach for the Acrobatics & Tumbling, Cheerleading and Dance programs for the Bulldogs. Johnson is a native of West Covina, Calif. and graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in general science (biology and chemistry).

She was a member of the Acrobatics and Tumbling team at the University of Oregon and helped the team capture two NCATA national championships. Johnson was also very active in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Oregon organizing and participating in community service activities.

"I am very excited about starting my college coaching career at Adrian College," said Johnson. "I competed for national titles in all three programs that I will be taking over and feel like that pedigree will be valuable to the student-athletes at Adrian College. I have a strong desire to work with teams and develop teamwork. I believe that my enthusiasm will bring winning programs to the College. I want to thank President Docking and the athletic department for this great opportunity."

Johnson has vast experience with several organizations including Explosive All-Stars where she was a cheer/tumbling coach and chereographer since 2013. She worked with USASF levels 1-6 and taught routines for many high school and college teams. She has also been a member of the United Spirit Association as a cheer instructor and judge since 2007. Johnson worked summer camps and was an instructor for school teams from elementary to college. She judged regional cheer and dance competitions and conducted school try-outs.

"Our athletic department is happy to have Tsutae on board," commented athletic director Michael Duffy. "She brings a great amount of experience to Adrian College and competed at the University of Oregon, who is tops in the acrobatics and tumbling world. She has a hunger for moving our teams forward and a great attitude which will reflect positively on our student-athletes."

Johnson personally has over 10 years of experience in artistic gymnastics as a member of Charter Oak Gymnastics. She also served from 2003-10 at California Cheer Gym as a coach working with several state and national championship gymnasts.
