Baseball Drops Season Opener in North Carolina at Pfeiffer, 4-3

MISENHEIMER, N.C.--Host Pfeiffer scored the tiebreaking run in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap a three-run comeback to edge nationally-ranked Adrian, 4-3, in the 2020 season opener for the visitors. More details to come later....

TOP 'DAWGS
= Senior Tristin Richardson had a RBI-double.

= Junior Sean O'Keefe also recorded a double.

= Senior starting pitcher Pierce Banks had eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings to achieve a milestone. He got a no-decision after scattering four hits and allowing two walks toward giving up an earned run.

THE OPPOSITION
= Ira Dorin was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.

= Michael Glenn pitched three scoreless innings in relief to get the win. He allowed a hit with two walks and a strikeout.

= Zach Ferrell and Kyler Fairchild both contributed a double, with the former getting a run batted in.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= With one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Jake Brown reached on a fielding error and would eventually come around to score an unearned run on Blake Winebarger's RBI-single through the right side. Pfeiffer held on to its first lead of the day to win, 4-3.

= The Falcons tied the score 3-3 with two runs in their previous at-bat. Dorin scored on a passed ball, unearned, to make it 3-2 and Ferrell followed with a RBI-fielder's choice.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Banks passes Keith Bozyk (194, 1991-95) for sole possession of fifth place on Adrian's all-time strikeouts chart, and now has 202 in his career to become just the fourth Bulldog ever to eclipse the 200-milestone.

= Adrian and Pfeiffer will play game 2 of their three-game weekend series at 2 p.m. Saturday. Unlike today, the Falcons' athletics communications office will not be able to provide live video.
