GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Adrian College men's basketball team dropped the first game of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schedule for this year on Thursday, Jan. 3, falling to the Calvin Knights 78-55.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a close start to the game Calvin rattled off 12 straight points to open a 24-11 advantage. Adrian battled back and cut the deficit to seven before Neither team was efficient from deep in the first half, with AC going 2-13 for 15.4% and Calvin missing all eight of its three-point attempts. Rebounding was the key stat of the first 20, with the Knights out rebounding the Black and Gold 23-10, including a 7-1 advantage on the offensive boards.
The second half was similar to the first, with rebounding continuing in Calvin's favor. The Knights doubled up the Bulldogs in rebounds, grabbing 47 to Adrian's 23, with a 17-4 mark on the offensive end on the way to a 79-55 victory over Adrian. The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 37.5% while the Knights shot 47% from the field. Almost the entire squad got minutes as 11 Bulldogs checked into the contest.
• Sophomore guard Sam Colbert led the Bulldogs with 13 points.
• Derrick DeVries led Calvin with 19 points.
• Carson Meulenberg dominated the boards with 16 rebounds for the Knights.
The Bulldogs return home this weekend to host Albion on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 3 p.m. in the MIAA home-opener.
