Nationally-Ranked Men's Hockey Doubles Up NCHA Leader Aurora, 4-2

GENEVA, Ill.--Sophomore Rex Moe scored twice to help the nationally No. 8-ranked Adrian men's hockey team double up Northern Collegiate Hockey Association-leading Aurora, 4-2, on Saturday evening.

THE BASICS
= Final Score: Adrian College 4, Aurora University 2

= Location: Fox Valley Ice Arena; Geneva, Ill.

= Updated Records:  Adrian Bulldogs, 5-1-1 overall (4-1 NCHA South Division); Aurora Spartans, 7-2-1 overall (4-2-1 NCHA South Division)

= National Rankings: Adrian--No. 8 United States College Hockey Online (143 points); Aurora--"receiving votes" category in USCHO poll with 30 points.

TOP 'DAWGS
Moe led all scorers with two goals and tied for the game-high with four shots on goal.

= Classmate Trevor Coykendall scored a goal and went 8-2 in the face-off circle.

= Junior goalie Cameron Gray made 26 saves.

= Senior Vinny Post added six face-off wins in eight attempts. 

THE OPPOSITION
= Connor Chilton and Liam Stirtzinger scored goals for Aurora.

= Roberts Baranovskis led the offense with four shots on goal.

= Drew Doyon won 15 of 22 face-offs and Chilton won 13 draws in 28 attempts.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
= Coykendall gave Adrian a 1-0 lead 2 minutes and 57 seconds into the first period. Senior Bryce Van Horn was credited with an assist.

= Aurora tied it when Chilton scored on the power play at the 7:39 mark. Larry Jungwirth and Adam Keyes got assists on the play.

= Adrian led 2-1 after the first period as Moe took a feed from sophomore Austin Bottrell at the 13:40 mark and poked the puck past Josh Boyko (34 saves).

= The Bulldogs padded their lead to 4-1 with a pair of goals in the second period. Senior Vincent Paquette scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 11:36 on an assist from freshman Zachary Heintz and Moe scored on the power play just 40 seconds later on a pass from freshman Alessio Luciani.

= In the third period, Stirtzinger cut the deficit in half with a shorthanded goal at 5:43 on an assist by Shawn O'Malley.

= Adrian outshot Aurora by a 38-28 count, including 14-7 in the decisive second period when the Bulldogs took command with a three-goal advantage.

= The Bulldogs went 1-for-3 on the power play while the Spartans were 1-for-7.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Aurora is 2-2 at home, but 5-0-1 on the road. 

= Adrian has never lost to Aurora in their nine-game history (9-0), including a 5-0 mark on the road.

= The Spartans still hold a one-point lead over NCHA South Division rivals Adrian, Lake Forest and Trine.  

UP NEXT
= These same two teams meet again at 7 p.m. Eastern/6 Central on Sunday to wrap up their first post-Thanksgiving weekend series.
