Max Leventis Makes History Despite Men's Lacrosse 25-11 Loss to Alma in MIAA Opener

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College men's lacrosse team couldn't overcome the turnover bug and visiting Alma took advantage to claim a 25-11 win in the Bulldogs' Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener on Tuesday evening.

THE BASICS
= Final Score: Alma College 25, Adrian College 11

= Location: Kapnick Field at Docking Stadium, Adrian, Mich.; Weather conditions: Clear, 59 degrees, Wind NW 16 mph

= Records: Alma Scots 6-8 overall (2-1 MIAA); Adrian Bulldogs 3-6 overall (0-1 MIAA)

TOP 'DAWGS
= Freshman Travis Fox tied career highs of five goals and six points to pace the offense. He also had four ground balls.

= Classmate Peyton Gasche added two goals and three assists for a five-point night.

= Freshman Max Leventis won 21 of 37 face-offs and scooped up a game-high 15 ground balls while making Adrian history in the process.

THE OPPOSITION
= Jared Nycz pumped in game highs of eight goals and 12 total points.

= Chase Hunyadi had a game-best seven assists among eight points.

= Connor Alley (5), Timothy Gearig (4), Tommy Quinlan (3), Tom Needham (2) and Quinton Bortel (2) also had multi-goal games.

= Michael Donahue (W, 2-1) had 10 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Alma, which never trailed, led 7-2 after the end of the first quarter. 

= Most of the Scots' 25 goals came off 29 Bulldog turnovers.

= The teams traded goals in the first four minutes after the opening face-off as Hunyadi connected with Nycz at 12 minutes and 54 seconds left on the clock before Fox tied it from Gasche at 10:58.

= But the Hunyadi-Nycz connection struck again at 7:55 to spark a 5-0 Scots run until Fox scored again, unassisted, at 2:08 with Adrian man-up.  

= Alma also held statistical leads in shots (49-32), shots on goal (34-21) and a slight edge in ground balls (43-38).

= Alma built a 12-4 lead at halftime.

= The Scots' largest lead of the night at 23-9 came late in the fourth quarter when their starters remained on the field.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= Alma evens the all-time series at four wins apiece.

= Leventis becomes the only freshman in program history to reach 100 ground balls in a season. He is second on the all-time chart with 114 as Bulldogs record holder Mitch Barnard recorded 146 in 2012.

= Gasche takes over the Adrian scoring lead with 46 points on 17 goals and 29 assists. His assists are the most by an Adrian player since Doug Boyd also had 29 in 2014 for the sixth-most in a single-season.

= Nycz leads the MIAA in goals (38), assists (44) and total points (82).

= Adrian continues MIAA play at 4 p.m. Saturday against visiting Trine, also at Docking Stadium. The game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m., so please note the new start time.
