HANOVER, Ind. - The women's basketball team got back on the court Saturday for their second game of the Hanover Sodexo Classic at Collier Arena. The Bulldogs dropped to 0-2 with a 71-63 loss to Transylvania who improved to 1-1.
Transy jumped out to a 18-6 lead in the first six-plus minutes of the game. The Pioneers and Bulldogs were tied 6-6 before Transy went on an 12-0 run. Adrian regrouped to cut the lead to 22-16 after a jumper by Lauren Rhoads. The Bulldogs further cut into the lead later in the half as TraeVonne Shelton made a bucket with 4:43 left in the first half making it 33-32. Transy immediately went on a 7-0 run over the next minute and a half before going into the locker room up 40-34.
The Pioneers came out strong in the second half and pushed their lead to 53-40 at the 11:06 mark. The Bulldogs could not cut the lead under seven points in the latter stages of the game and finished with an eight-point defeat. Rhoads led Adrian with 15 points and went 4-of-4 at the charity stripe. Amy Van Gessel led the team with 10 rebounds and also added eight points (3-of-10 FG). Casey Fougerousse chipped in 10 points off the bench making two triples and three total field goals.
Adrian shot 34.3 percent from the floor while Transylvania shot 46.3 percent. Adrian outrebounded the Pioneers 41-34 and held a 17-7 edge on the offensive glass. Nicole Coffman led all scorers with 28 points going 10-of-15 from the floor and also recorded five steals for Transylvania.
