FREELAND, Mich. – Adrian College softball senior Paige Cubberly was named to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) All-Conference Second Team, the league office announced Wednesday, May 1. She earned the nod after a career year both at the plate and in the circle.
Cubberly finished with a career-high .326 batting average this year to finish second on the team, finishing her career with a .307 average. She also had a career-high number of hits, doubles, and RBIs, knocking 42 hits, with 14 of those being doubles and driving in 26 runs. Cubberly's14 doubles were second in the conference and tied for the second-most in a single season in program history. She took 63 total bases from the plate this year, putting her in the top 10 in the conference, at ninth.
Cubberly was also Adrian's best pitcher this season, leading the team with 10 wins, another career high for the senior. She was in the top 10 in the conference in appearances (23 for sixth), wins (10 for fifth), innings pitched (91 for 10th), strikeouts (48 for eighth), and ERA (3.54 for 10th). Her marks for appearances, wins, innings pitched, strikeouts, and ERA were all career bests. She finishes her career with 59 total appearances in the circle, putting her sixth all-time in program history.
In addition to her batting and pitching marks, Cubberly was one of the best fielders on the team and in program history. She played first base when not pitching and did not commit an error this season for a 1.000 fielding percentage, becoming the seventh Bulldog to finish the year without making an error (minimum of 40 chances). Her career fielding percentage comes in at .984, putting her tied for sixth in the program record books. Cubberly also cracks the top 10 in career putouts, ending her career with 472, the fifth-most the school has seen.
This marks the second year in a row Adrian College softball has had a player named All-Conference, with the Bulldogs garnering two selections last year. Cubberly was also named the MIAA's Position Player of the Week on April 22, the first MIAA recognition she received.
