Bulldogs Defeat Belles to Pick Up Second Conference Win

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's volleyball team defeated St. Mary's (Ind.) in straight sets on Wednesday, Sep. 26 to improve to 2-1 in conference play this year. Senior Olivia Welch was honored before the match started for becoming a member of the 1,000 digs and 100 service aces club earlier in the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first set was a close match until Adrian started to pull away in the later stages. St. Mary's wouldn't go away, and made a comeback to tie the set at 23. But the Bulldogs were able to win the next two points to take the first set 25-23.

It was a tight one again in the second set with neither team able to pull away. It was the Belles this time that had the upper hand first before the Bulldogs went on an 8-1 run to end the set, winning 25-20.

The Black and Gold jumped out to a quick lead in the third set and didn't look back, cruising to a 25-17 set victory win the match in three sets. Adrian has now won four of its last five matches.

TOP DOGS

• Junior Carly Thomas led the Bulldogs in kills with 13 and added 12 digs.

• Sophomore Liz Susitko was Adrian's leader in assists, finishing with 26 and coming in second on the team in digs with 16.

• Junior Megan Prsa led the Black and Gold's defense with 17 digs.

• Welch had a strong match with 11 kills and digs each.

THE OPPOSITION

• Nicole Lukens led the St. Mary's offense with 11 kills.

• Morgan VanderWey led the Belles in assists with 27.

• The Saint Mary's defense was led by Audrey Shannon with 24 digs.

UP NEXT

The Bulldogs host Defiance on Saturday, Sep. 29 before traveling to St. Mary's for a rematch in a non-conference game on Friday, Oct. 5.
